OUR APPROACH TO TRAUMA THERAPY IN INDIANAPOLIS, IN
Trauma is quite simply any distressing or disturbing event. Most people will experience some form of trauma in their lifetime. Nearly everyone will be exposed to trauma experiences of others either through social relationships or media exposure. Some people will develop Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) because of their experience, and others will not. Psychotherapy is the most clinically effective form of treatment for trauma and PTSD.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) are evidence-based treatments for trauma and Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Both of these treatments are offered at Indiana Counseling & Resilience Center.

FAQ
Common questions about trauma therapy
Will I have to go back and relive my trauma?
Some people want to tell their stories in detail. Others do not, and that is completely okay. You decide what you’re comfortable with in therapy.
Our therapists are very mindful to avoid re-traumatization in therapy and will support you in growth at your own pace.
Can I work on issues other than trauma?
Yes! We are here to help you with living the life you want. This may be focusing on your trauma or may include coping with stress at work, relationships, depression, grief, or other issues that may arise.
I’ve tried therapy before, what makes this different?
There are many ways to discuss trauma in therapy, but in order to make lasting changes and release the trauma the therapist needs to use evidence-based trauma treatments. Our therapists use two evidence-based trauma treatments, EMDR and TF-CBT.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a brain-based approach that helps to put past trauma in the past so it no longer interferes with your present life. You can read more on our EMDR page.
Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) has been proven effective in research studies and is considered one of the most highly effective trauma treatment modalities for children/teens.
